There are so many conflicting "studies" floating around the interest as to what the ideal workout time is. When a person is trying to gain muscle mass by weight training they want a combination of factors. Effective hormonal release, hypertrophy, and stimulation of both types of muscle fibers. So then the big question arises, how long do I need to be at the gym to achieve those three factors? Believe it or not, it can be done in 7 minutes.

However, these 7 minutes need to count. In these 7 minutes you will have to perform a lot of work. More work done in less time equals increase in power. This is standard physics. Trying to gain muscle mass by weight training is the traditional, and only way to gain muscle mass.

To have an effective workout you need to be mentally focused. Just like performing well in a sport, trying to gain muscle mass by weight training is no different. Next time you are at the gym, while you are lifting the weights really focus on your muscles. Focus on how they feel, how they contract, the very sensation inside the muscle. This will help you stay focused and "in the zone."

Over training when trying to gain muscle mass by weight lifting is very common. A rule of thumb is to be cautious when approaching momentary muscle failure. Studies have shown that when one goes to momentary muscle failure multiple sets in a row, the hormone cortisol is produced which hinders the muscle building process. Endurance will be increased, but actually muscle size will not. This is why it's important not to over train when trying to gain muscle mass by weight training.

In conclusion, yes it's possible to gain muscle mass by weight training a short amount of time in the gym. There are many different types of weight training programs out there, search the internet and find the right one for you. Good luck with your training, be smart.
