In terms of training strength training exercises are the same as resistance training, and make use of the resistance to the contraction of muscles to ensure that muscles develop. Press Ups - The press up makes use of the body's weight to add resistance thus developing muscles throughout the body, including arms, legs and abdomen. Although in the full press up the legs and back are straight including when raised off of the ground, there are variations to ease the press up including balancing the body on the knees.
Pull Ups - Another resistance exercise, the pull up makes use of the weight of the body in order to help develop the muscles in the back and arms. The standard pull-up uses an overhand grip, with the body pulled up and lowered. There are many variations that make use of different grasps as well as the addition of weights to increase the resistance to the build up.
Parallel Bar Dips - One of the more difficult exercises the parallel bar dips makes use of the whole body's weight in order to add resistance. The dip helps in the development of the chest and triceps and works on parallel bars that are normally positioned shoulder width apart. From a straight arm position the elbows are bent to lower the body, and then straightened again to complete one repetition.
Most people will develop their own strength training exercise regimes to incorporate their own favorite exercises. It is though important to remember not to focus on just one group of muscles as it will cause a muscle imbalance.
