We are the "busy" generation. We are busier than ever before in history despite our modern technology driven lifestyles full of time saving devices and instant communication. Having a fast paced lifestyle is not necessarily a bad thing but we need to take regular and planned breaks from it if we are to remain healthy.

Whether you think about it or not, you are faced with this question every single day. Will you find the time for your exercise program today, or will the busyness of the day leave you exhausted on the couch? We may ask ourselves where on the totem pole of priorities should exercise be, and is it important in our busy lives?

Most of us are so busy that we rarely take time out for ourselves. Between work, family, kids and life in general, it is hard to find and enjoy "me" time. Self-care is very important and this time is a chance to shut the door on life's busyness and recharge ones self.

Your time spent exercising is a safe place or refuge where you don't have to be available to anyone or anything. The rigors and demands of your daily life can not reach you if only for a little while. Use this time to reconnect with yourself, the inner you. This is a chance to not only exercise but relax at the same time. This place you have created is a place where mind and body come together to distress, rejuvenate, calm and center you.

It will feel like medicine washing over you dissipating negative feelings, making solutions to unsolvable problems easier to access and making you feel strong, in control and re focused. You are much more productive person when you are whole, healthy and feeling good about yourself.

It is well known that exercise results in many physical benefits, weight loss, improved stamina, increased lifespan and improvement in the operating efficiency of various body parts and systems. Less known is the fact that a proper exercise program that contains strength training not only strengthens the body but also strengthens the mind, preparing it to accept and overcome the ups and downs and challenges of our busy lives.

It's not just the outside of your body you need to exercise; the inside is just as important if not more. Unmanaged stress can have profound negative health effects and no body part is spared impacting the brain, muscles and immune system reducing our body's ability to fight disease.

By choosing exercises that work multiple muscle groups together a challenging an effective workout can be obtained. Combining exercises and focusing on the large muscle groups can save time while increasing strength, flexibility, endurance, stability, and increasing the metabolism to burn excess body fat.
